Fathers Cry Also

by Phil Spencer

Grieving over a lost child never goes away, it does not have a use by date, a lot of people who have not lost a child don’t realise this, we have had comments like “are you over it yet” or “I am glad to see that you have moved on”, I believe that you don’t move on you just learn to carry on with your ‘happy’ mask on and all the baggage on your back.

Grieving for your child never ends.

My grandparents lost a child at a young age, it is interesting in that my grandmother would not let anyone talk about Auntie Elsie, it was a taboo subject she never visited her grave yet my grandfather would go regularly every month to sit with his daughter and tend the grave, he did that for the rest of his life for as long as he was able. People grieve differently, men grieve differently to women, fathers differently to mothers, it is important to remember this.
