Bereavement Support

The Victorian State Government funds the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement Counselling and Support Service to provide specialist bereavement support free of charge to all Victorians. Service include, counselling, support groups, information resources, remembrance events or workplace and organisational bereavement support. Funding is also received from the Commonwealth Government to provide a range of grief and bereavement services for those in the aged care sector who COVID-19 has impacted.
Clinical Supervision and secondary consultation, at a reasonable fee for service rates, is available to other practitioners. The service also provides advance training for bereavement counsellors by providing a supervised internship for experienced practitioners. Counsellors at the service come from a variety of disciplines, including social work, psychology and psychotherapy.
The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement Counselling and Support Service, provides online, telephone and face-to-face bereavement counselling to individuals, children and families who need assistance following the death of someone close to them.
Support groups are a way of bringing people together in a safe space to share common life experiences. They provide a forum for participants to communicate in a mutual understanding of shared challenges and problems. The strength of support groups lie in the connections and understandings that come from shared narratives.
This service provides information, consultation and support for practitioners who are working with bereaved clients experiencing complex and prolonged bereavements.

To commemorate, honour and remember the lives of those lost to us, the Centre invites you, your family and friends to participate in our Annual Remembrance Week held during the first week of December each year.
