Course Structure

With 11 compulsory core units, the Certificate IV in Bereavement Support offers a holistic approach to industry activities. While bereavement care and support work are the focus of the course, the content also incorporates communication, capacity building, and quality management as required in real workplace environment.

Apply theoretical principles of grief and loss



Provide support for grief and loss across lifespan and among special population



Apply grief and loss support strategies



Respond holistically to grief and loss in aged and palliative care settings



Work effectively with older people



Deal with grief responses



Develop, implement and promote effective communication

Work within a structured counselling framework

Credit Transfer

Students who have previously completed any of the units imported from existing training packages (marked*) can apply for credit transfer and be exempt from having to undertake those units.

RPL + GAP Training

Prospective students with significant industry or workplace experience are encouraged to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), thus shortening the length of course and reducing the course fees.


The total cost of the course is $3,600 which is payable via a Payment Plan of $300 per month over a 12 month period.

Financial Support

Given that the course is equivalent to a 6-month full time training and is approved by the Department of Human Services, students may be eligible for Centrelink payment while undertaking this course.

When Can I start?

The next Certificate IV in Bereavement Support Online Course will commence 1st October 2017
