This course is aimed at community support staff and health care workers who have contact with bereaved and grieving individuals, even though their primary role may be not be in the field of grief and bereavement. Course Overview Many community support and health care professionals may only have brief contact or sometimes just a single session with individuals experiencing grief or bereavement. Research tells us that a large percentage of bereaved individuals will be able to live with their grief with minimal support from professionals. However it is acknowledge that complications and difficulties may occur over time if the bereaved individuals has not had timely access to sound, basic information about the nature of grief, and how to identify when to be concerned for the wellbeing of themselves and others. Effective bereavement support can be offered or initiated via brief contact or a single session without compromising the quality of the support given. This short course will offer a simple framework and strategies that can be used to ensure effective bereavement support when only having brief contact with bereaved or grieving individuals. Course Content - Explore the grief experience for individuals using contemporary grief and bereavement theories/models. - Understand basic grief education to individuals by identifying common grief reactions, possible behaviours and when to be concerned. - Identify strategies and resources that assist people who are grieving and can be addressed briefly. - Understand when to refer to specialist grief and bereavement services for ongoing support. Course Duration 100% online, 4 weeks, 4 modules (approx 1-2 hours per module) and must be completed within the four weeks. You will require internet access and a computer or other device to access the learning portal. Prerequisites No entry pre requisites. Recognition Students will receive Certificate of Participation from ACGB once submission has been received for Case Study based Assignment. A 30-minute face to face assignment review with Trainer is also available (in addition to fee). Cost $295 for ACGB members $345 for non members Refund Policy A refund may be give if: - The student is enrolled in a course and the course is cancelled due to to insufficient student numbers. - The student advises ACGB in writing that they are withdrawing from the course 14 days prior to course commencing. - Refund is requested less than 14 days before course commencement. A full refund, less a $50 administration fee will be paid. - No refund is available to a student who leaves the course before finishing it. - If a student can provide a medical certificate or show extreme hardship, a full refund, less a cancellation fee as outlined on the following table will be paid.
