April Intake: Working With Grief, Loss & Trauma

Live Short Course Overview

Violent or traumatic deaths bring a range of complex reactions, which can vary widely for individuals. Strong physical, cognitive and emotional reactions are common, with the social world of the bereaved also affected. Trauma can accompany a death, which require a additional set of skills to work with an individual.

In this live short course can expect to engage in a discussion of these complex issues and explore the most effective ways to provide support and assistance to the bereaved, while being mindful of the impact on the support worker themselves

Learning Outcomes

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Explore current grief, loss and trauma theories
  • Understand and be able to offer simple techniques for managing strong emotions
  • Be aware of role definition and boundaries as a support worker when working with violent and traumatic deaths
  • Develop an understanding of the complex needs of those bereaved through violent and traumatic death and gain increased confidence in working with individuals affected by these issues
