October Intake: Using Telehealth With Grieving Clients

Self-Paced Course Overview

Telehealth counselling is the use of telecommunication over a network to provide therapeutic bereavement support. Telehealth encompasses both telephone and online counselling through platforms such as ZOOM, skype or Microsoft TEAMS.

Telehealth therapy works by establishing a medium of communication between patients and therapists who are not in the same physical location. The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a significant increase in the use of telehealth services for counselling individuals, couples and families and for facilitating support groups.

This self-paced course will examine the use of telehealth for grieving clients. It will identify the opportunities and obstacles that Bereavement Counsellors and clients face when implementing, conducting and reviewing telehealth support. The course will also examine the historical use of telehealth services and how it has evolved over time. It will ascertain the practical aspects of using telehealth, online etiquette and privacy and safety. Additionally, the course will explore ‘telehealth through the lifespan’, assess its use with culturally and linguistically diverse populations and discuss user ability to maximise the experience and provide effective bereavement support when face to face counselling is not available or possible.
