Diversity & Multiculturalism in Grief Support

Diversity & Multiculturalism in Grief Support

Webinar Overview:

Diversity and Multiculturalism in Grief Support: Implications for Inclusive Practice

Grief is profoundly influenced by people’s sociocultural identities. One’s ethnicity, race, language, spirituality, religiosity, gender, age, and sexuality affect the ways people process and express their grief. In this webinar, we will explore the intersections of multiple identities and how they operate as both complicating and protective factors in the experience of grief. Further, we will analyse the role of acculturation strategies in grief. Through culturally inclusive and adapted approaches, practitioners can support grieving individuals in making sense of their loss, developing resilience and finding personal growth through bereavement. Evidence-based implications for grief support and counselling will be discussed. The webinar will draw upon relevant and recent research and clinical experience.

Learning Outcomes
1) Analyse the way intersecting identities influence grief and mourning
2) Evaluate the role of cultural values and beliefs in grief and mourning
3) Evaluate the role of rituals and rites of passage in grief and mourning
4) Apply culturally inclusive and adapted grief and counselling support
