Workshop Overview: How to support Colleagues following an adverse life event

Knowing what to say and do to support a colleague who has experienced an adverse life event is a challenge faced by many in the work place. This workshop will explore the following through an experiential learning focus based on a case study using role plays and sharing a circle:

- How to communicate respectfully 
- How to provide effective support to a colleague 
- Building communication skills
- Create safe sharing space 
- Self-care 

Learning Outcomes:

- Build your strategies for sitting with another's distress
- Learn more skills to manage strong emotions
- Explore different ways ti care for yourself whilst having difficult conversations 

The Presenter: Jackie Tarabay

Jackie Tarabay is a Specialise Bereavement Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor, Trainer and Groups Coordinator at the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement (ACGB). Jackie provides individual counselling to children, adolescents and adults. Additionally, she coordinates various support groups including the Kids Grieve Too (KG2) program. Jackie also develops workshops, programs and customised trainings. 

Jackie has presented talks at the ACGB National Conference, Australasian Cemetery and Crematorium Association (ACCA), and Good Life Good Death Expo and was a member of the focus group for Palliative Care Australia (PCA). Jackie’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Counselling, a Master Practitioner Certificate in Neuro Linguistic Programing (NLP), a Diploma of Shamanic Studies, Clinical Supervision and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment. Jackie also has studied in a host of other areas including psychotherapy, grief and loss, drama and personal development.

Jackie's philosophy towards grief and loss is that every person is unique and grieves in their own way and in their own time. Jackie believe the core qualities of genuineness, empathy and unconditional positive regard are the heart of supporting the bereaved. Jackie advocates creating a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental environment to help people integrate their loss in a way that is both effective and personal.

  • $340.00 for non members

Cancellation and Refund Policy

The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement reserves the right to cancel education programs that do not achieve minimum participation, in which case all fees will be refunded.
Registration cancellations will not be accepted unless made in writing to the centre. Cancellations made more than thirty (30) days prior to the event date will be refunded less 25% of the registration fee to cover administration costs. 
No registration refunds will be made after this date. Please note: The full invoiced amount will still be payable in the event of non-attendance on the day.
