Grief is our response to loss. It is the normal, natural and inevitable response to loss, and it can affect every part of our life, including our thoughts, behaviours, beliefs, feelings, physical health and our relationships with others.

This workshop is designed for anyone encountering bereaved people in their professional lives. It is helpful for anyone who wants to understand the issues surrounding bereavement and how to communicate with clients and customers after someone close to them has died.

Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Gain an overview of Grief and Loss theory
Learn how to communicate effectively and compassionately with bereaved people
Develop confidence talking about difficult and sensitive matters
Understand Self-care and its impact

The Presenter: Mary Bryant

Mary Bryant has worked as a social worker, lecturer and counsellor for thirty years. Mary is currently the Manager of a Bereavement Counselling Service at a leading Sydney Hospital. In other roles Mary has worked  with people who have been diagnosed with cancer, people with a dementia diagnosis and their carers, people who experienced significant health challenges , as well as those in palliative care , supporting people who were dying and their families. . Mary is passionate about normalising reactions to grief which are too often misdiagnosed as anxiety disorders. Mary hopes to educate in a way that reduces fear and builds confidence in anyone that has an experience of grief or loss.
