Workshop Overview: Resilience and Approaches to Self-Care

This workshop will introduce participants to the importance of our ‘self’ as an important part of ‘being with’ the bereaved. Together we will explore how the work can affect us at all levels of our lives and how it can impact on our work with clients.

Using discussion, example and practice, the workshop will cover the personal challenges of providing grief and bereavement support, along with an exploration of compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and how to recognise and minimise their effects in the workplace and our personal lives. A range of mindfulness approaches to self-care will be offered to participants as a pathway to ensuring healthy work practices.

Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Recognise how supporting those who are grieving can impact on their own wellbeing
Understanding what resilience is and what practical applications can make you more resilient
Understand mindfulness concepts and how they can be applied in practice
Use a practical understanding of a range of personal and professional self-care strategies to identify and develop a tailored self-care plan
