Workshop Overview: Expanding the Therapist Toolkit: Effective Techniques and Strategies

Grief has the capacity to affect an individual psychologically, physically, spiritually, cognitively and emotionally. How do we respond effectively to the needs of clients. How can we enlist effective strategies to support our work with bereaved clients? This workshop will explore a range of therapeutic strategies that you can use in your work with bereaved clients.

Starting from an exploration of the work of master therapists, this workshop will consider the role of techniques alongside the role fo developing and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship with our clients. We will examine a range strategies that can then be added to the clinicians therapeutic toolkit. This will further help them to develop individualised programs for their clients; therefore, helping their clients to gain perspective on their loss and the ability to move forward with their grief journey.

Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Identify and describe the features of master therapists and how change can be effected.
Explore a range of techniques which address specific concerns of clients, such as the continuing bond with the deceased; working with emotion and reconstructing the self of the client following loss.
Work with increased confidence with clients using a broader range of interventions.
Develop an understanding of when and with which clients to implement different therapeutic strategies.
