March Intake: Parenting After the Death of a Child

Online Workshop Overview

The death of a child has a devastating impact on a parent because a catastrophic event of this scale assaults one’s identity, threaten one’s view of the world, strains the marital relationship, changes the psychological landscape of the family, and leaves its irreversible mark on the surviving children. While there is a body of research on the unspeakable tragedy of parental bereavement, little attention has been given to the unique challenges, and overwhelming responsibilities parents face in parenting their surviving bereaved children.

This experiential workshop addresses the delicate and complex predicament facing bereaved parents; specifically, as you grieve, how do you cease parenting the deceased child while simultaneously continuing in this role with surviving children?

Learning Outcomes

Following this workshop, participants will:

  • Be able to identify special features of parental loss
  • Be able to describe the Theoretical frameworks that inform the field of loss, grief and bereavement
  • Be able to identify and describe a range of online and face to face therapeutic interventions that may useful when working with bereaved parents and their family
