Online Workshop Overview

Bereavement support groups can help participants thoughtfully manage the pain of their grief in a way that acknowledges relationships and connections between the deceased person and the bereaved, together with participants in a support group setting.

They can help those who are deeply wounded and can change their lives. Sharing their stories with love can be transformative for the living. The power of storytelling and strength borrowed from the dead can enhance the living and carry them to new places. 

Support groups offer unique opportunities to be heard and to bear witness to another’s experience. Groups can reduce a sense of loneliness and isolation that often accompanies grief. 

This experiential workshop addresses the theoretical underpinnings on group work, theory and practice and hone clinical skills. An overview of grief and loss theories and models along with creative activities and ideas that can soothe the pain that death brings.

Learning Outcomes

Following this workshop, participants will:

Presenter Bio

Presenter Names: Jackie Tarabay and Bianca Lavorgna

Bianca:

Bianca is a Bereavement Counsellor, Educator, Supervisor and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Trainer with expertise in the development, delivery and coordination of support services and programs. Bianca comes with specialist knowledge and experience in working with companion animal loss, children and adolescents. She is the co-author of The Yellow Leaf, a children's book that aims to help families to understand that grief is not linear and that there is no perfect way to grieve. Bianca is passionate about providing bereavement support, advocacy and education within the community. She holds a Master's in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Australian College of Applied Psychology with a Graduate Qualification in Bereavement Counselling from the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement.

Jackie Tarabay is a Specialist Bereavement Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor, Trainer and Groups Coordinator at the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement (ACGB). Jackie provides individual counselling to children, adolescents and adults and has years of experience coordinating various support groups, including the facilitation of the Kids Grieve Too (KG2) program. Jackie also creates and delivers workshops, programs and customised training.

Jackie’s therapeutic philosophy toward grief and loss is based on a client lead approach where every person is seen as unique, grieving in their own way and their own time. Jackie focuses on the core qualities of genuineness, empathy and unconditional positive regard in supporting the bereaved. Jackie advocates creating a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental environment to help integrate loss in a way that is both effective and personal. 

Jackie has presented talks at the ACGB National Conference, Australasian Cemetery and Crematorium Association (ACCA), and Good Life Good Death Expo and was a member of the focus group for Palliative Care Australia (PCA). Jackie’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Counselling, a Master Practitioner Certificate in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), a Diploma of Shamanic Studies, Clinical Supervision and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment. Jackie also has studied in a host of other areas including psychotherapy, grief and loss, drama and personal development.

• Once you have enrolled, you will receive an automated confirmation email 
• One week before the workshop start date, you will receive the zoom links for the live sessions.

• The workshops will not be recorded and it is essential that you attend live. You will need access to a strong internet connection, a microphone and a camera.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement reserves the right to cancel education programs that do not achieve minimum participation, in which case ACGB will refund all fees.

Registration cancellations will not be accepted unless made in writing to the Centre. Cancellations made more than thirty (30) days before the event date will be refunded less 25% of the registration fee to cover administration costs.

No registration refunds will be made after this date. Please note: The total invoiced amount will still be payable in the event of non-attendance on the day.

A copy of the course presentation will be available after the course and is for personal/non-commercial use only. 3. Registration
