Music Therapy and Grief

Webinar Overview

This webinar will provide new insights into ways of using music as part of the grieving process. Drawing on knowledge from the profession of music therapy, the presenter will identify four key ways of using music with grieving people. Together, we will explore simple approaches to using sons, using instruments, using music and imagery, and music listening to meet the needs of individuals, families and groups. This webinar will use examples to illustrate how music has been used in the presenter's work with children, teenagers, young and older adults. The emphasis will be on thinking about the unique relationship every person has with music and discovering what is the most useful way to integrate creative experiences into a therapeutic process. Helpful and unhelpful ways of using music will be explored, particularly for those who are ruminating or struggling with a range of adverse experiences. Some experiential and self-reflective opportunities will be integrated to make sure learning is grounded in what is real for each participant.
