Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Develop the ability to define loss, grief and bereavement across the illness trajectory and what does the grief cycle look like
  • Gain an understanding of what should I be prepared for in terms of emotional highs and lows
  • Develop a method of coping with your emotions after death on a ward and how to manage yourself accordingly
  • Understand what self care is and the importance of self care for those working in the field of grief and bereavement.
  • Gaining an understanding of stress, how it happens, how our body reacts during stress and different types of stress.
  • Have the ability to recognise ones’ own symptoms of stress.
  • Learn about specific issues related to self care for grief and bereavement workers.
  • Become aware of various tools available to measure stress related issues.

Presenter Bio: Debbie Garratt

Debbie is a Clinical Nurse Consultant and qualified counsellor and adult educator, working in private practise.  For 20 years she has divided her time between the provision of education and clinical supervision to practitioners and clients locally, and speaking engagements both nationally and internationally.   Debbie has previously worked as a Registered Nurse in palliative care settings and as a Breast Care Nurse and Oncology Clinical trial nurse, working directly with patients with terminal diagnoses, as well as educating and supporting staff.  
 
Debbie’s current doctoral research is on the impact of dominant discourses on practitioner interactions with clients.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement reserves the right to cancel education programs that do not achieve minimum participation, in which case all fees will be refunded.

Registration cancellations will not be accepted unless made in writing to the centre. Cancellations made more than thirty (30) days prior to the event date will be refunded less 25% of the registration fee to cover administration costs.

No registration refunds will be made after this date.

Please note: The full invoiced amount will still be payable in the event of non-attendance on the day.
