Journal Club

You are invited to the next meeting of the Grief and Bereavement Journal Club. This group meets three times per year and provides an opportunity for the informal and relaxed discussion of recent research findings in the grief and bereavement field.

The paper which will be discussed at the July meeting is:

Stroebe, M., Schut, H. & Boerner, K. (2010). Continuing bonds in adaptation to bereavement: Toward theoretical integration, Clinical Psychology Review 30, 259–268.

There is considerable debate within the scientific literature with regard to the adaptive functions of continuing as opposed to relinquishing bonds to the deceased. This paper outlines a theoretical model for predicting the positive and negative adaptation of continuing-relinquishing bonds. Drawing upon attachment theory and the the Dual Process Model, (Stroebe & Schut, 1999), this model can be used to systematically examine the relationship between continuing bonds and bereavement adaptation.

If you would like to participate in this meeting please send an email to journalclub@grief.org.au.

Please indicate which of the three venues you will be attending. Please note that the Fitzroy meeting commences at 4:00pm with all others at 6:00pm.

We will provide you with a copy of the article by email. Alternatively telephone the office on (03) 9265 2100. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

There is no charge to participate in this activity.
